FREQUENT QUESTIONS:

Why choose Responder Services: We are a local company. We offer flexible and convenient scheduling, reliable & experienced instructors and site-specific customized training. We work hard to make emergency training simple and fun.

How far will Responder Services travel? We are based in Berlin, Wisconsin. We generally offer our programs to locations in the north-central portion of Wisconsin, roughly from Portage to Wausau and Marshfield to Green Bay. We will consider special arrangements for classes elsewhere. If we’re not able to meet your needs, we’ll help you find a suitable alternative. Travel fees may apply to locations more than 50 miles from Berlin, WI.

How many participants can I enroll? We generally limit our class size to 15 participants per session, to allow adequate student-instructor interaction. We can also conduct multiple same-day sessions at a given location, and we’ll always work with you to meet your specific needs. The minimum class size is 8 participants.

What if I have less than 8 participants? For individuals or groups smaller than 8, we will list your name and try to contact you when an opening is available in your area. We may also offer alternative sources for training.

What equipment or space is required for on-site training? You’ll need to provide an area large enough for all participants to sit during lecture and get on the floor for skills practice using manikins. Normally a TV and DVD player are required. If a TV/DVD player are not available, let us know and we’ll bring them along.

How long are standard certifications? CPR-AED and First Aid are valid for 2 years. Bloodborne Pathogens training is valid for only one year, in accordance with OSHA guidlines. Recertification/Refresher training must occur while credential is valid.

What is a Refresher Course? A refresher (or recertification) course is a modified training program for individuals who have already completed certification. These abbreviated programs are quicker paced and include skills review and testing.

How do I schedule a class? Contact our office by phone (toll free) 866-999-1033, or just complete the on-line request form in our Contact Us section. You can also reach us by regular mail at P.O. Box 149, Berlin, WI 54923.

When I help someone am I protected? Your certification in CPR, AED or First Aid does not mean that you must respond to an emergency situation. You always have a choice, unless your job description includes emergency response or you are a licensed EMT, first responder, etc. In general, the decision to help or not to help is yours to make. If you choose to work outside of your workplace, you would normally be protected by the Good Samaritan Law.

What is a Good Samaritan Law? The law is based on the principle that any person attempting to aid another who may be in imminent danger, shall be exempted from liability or contributory negligence, unless he/she attempts or provides care that is unreasonable or acts with gross negligence. The law’s purpose is to keep people from being so reluctant to help a stranger in need, for fear of legal repercussions if they made a mistake. This doctrine was developed for emergency first aid encounters and every state has it’s own adapted version. To view Wisconsin’s Good Samaritan statute, click on the AED Laws section.

What is the difference between American Heart Association and American Red Cross? Both AHA and ARC offer certification courses in CPR-AED and First Aid. While both organizations are nationally recognized and accepted leaders in quality training programs, AHA offers a 2-year certification for all programs. ARC only offers a 1-year certification.
